If you dreamed of a place where the right-brained dreamers inspired the left-brained doers - Pune would be the perfect place. Pune is a city where the creative minds of the world live side by side with the scientific and technological innovators of tomorrow. Known as Punya-nagri (city of virtuous deeds), or the Oxford of the East (for its many educational institutions) Pune is a thriving cultural and educational hub and a young, cosmopolitan city.

Located in the Sahayadri Hills, near the west coast of India, Pune is a fascinating city with a beautiful climate. It is the eight largest city in India, has the sixth largest metropolitan economy and the highest per capita income in India, with least income disparity between the rich and poor.

Pune has kept the great traditions of Indian classical music, dance and drama alive and thriving, with performers of international repute and a connoisseur audience. Home to unique events like the Sawai Gandharv Music Festival, Pune International Film Festival, Shaniwar Wada Festival and the Pune Ganesh Festival, it is a city where there is something of interest, serving diverse choices, throughout the year. The city also boasts an eclectic collection of shops, restaurants, coffee houses and a vibrant art scene.

Once a seat of the Peshwas, a power that ruled India, it is the karma bhoomi of social reformers like Gopal Ganesh Agharkar, Mahatma Phule, Babasaheb Ambedkar, Dhondo Keshav Karve and many more. The city was at the forefront of the freedom struggle with great freedom fighters such as Senapati Bapat, Bal Gangadhar (Lokmanya) Tilak, Vinayak (Veer) Savarkar making it their base.

Today a bustling industrial city and an automobile hub, the Tata’s NANO was developed in Pune. It is home to the world’s second largest two-wheeler manufacturer Bajaj Auto, the world’s largest forging company Bharat Forge and many other leading auto manufacturers such as Daimler Chrysler, General Motors, John Deere, FIAT, etc. Pune is also home to the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT). Another prominent research organization Vehicle Research and Development Establishment (VRDE) is based 120 kms. from Pune at Ahmednagar. Along with this the presence of numerous auto component suppliers, upcoming auto cluster projects, all add to the sobriquet of Pune being the Detroit of India.

Pune holds in its heart a lot of youthful energy and independent spirit with a rich mix of traditional and contemporary beliefs and values. The city welcomes people from far and wide, providing them with a safe ‘home-like’ environment and a large number of international and out station students call this city home.

With its multifarious charms, Pune provides the perfect balance of work and play.
